- 1944  Log-deck men. One or two men may be employed in rolling logs from the jack-ladder chain into the log deck and two or more may be needed to roll them from the deck onto the carriage [which bears them into the saw].
- 1947  The log is caught by the dogs, and hauled up into the mill where it waits on the log deck before being placed in the carriage.
